Amazon has removed the paperback and hardcover listing for The Camp of the Saints, according to a statement from the book’s publisher Vauban Books, which says the novel is still available in Kindle and audiobook formats on the platform. In a press release on April 20, 2026, Vauban Books said, “On Friday, April 17th, Amazon US removed the paperback listing for our edition of Jean Raspail’s The Camp of the Saints (at this writing, the book remains available for purchase in Kindle and audiobook formats).”

The publisher said it was informed by Amazon that the removal was tied to officensive content policy. “We have since been informed by Amazon that the book is in violation of the company’s ‘offensive content’ policy,” the statement said. “Amazon has supplied no information as to which portions of the book are offensive nor to whom.”

Initially, just paperback editions were pulled, the publisher claims. Later, hardcover versions were also pulled.

Vauban Books also said the paperback edition had been commercially active on the platform prior to its removal. “Our edition of the book was first listed for sale on Amazon in July 2025,” the publisher said. “In the eight months since, Amazon has sold roughly 20,000 paperback copies of it.” The statement added that the book had received “an average rating of 4.8 stars at the time of the listing’s deletion.”

The publisher further said the novel has received broad critical attention, stating it “has also been extensively reviewed in the American and international press” and that “its reviewers have been unanimous in their assessment of its abiding importance and relevance to contemporary debates.”

Vauban Books suggested the timing of the removal may be linked to external media coverage. “While we cannot say for certain has taken this extraordinary step, it may be no coincidence that the listing was removed one day after New York Magazine published a critical article on Vice President Vance that referenced the book,” the statement said.

The publisher also referenced earlier contraversies surrounding the novel’s distribution, stating: “This echoes a 2019 campaign that targeted Stephen Miller, leading the novel’s previous publisher to drop the title from its catalogue.”

Vauban Books confirmed the book remains available in other formats on Amazon. “At this writing, the book remains available for purchase in Kindle and audiobook formats,” it said.

The publisher added that it intends to continue distribution through other channels. “Vauban Books remains committed to keeping the novel in print and accessible worldwide,” the statement said.
