Elon Musk announced on Saturday that he would be forming a new political party called the "America Party" after he has gone back and forth with President Donald Trump over the "One Big Beautiful Bill" that was signed into law on Friday.

Musk posted to X, "By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom."

He had proposed a poll on X on July 4 of whether or not an alternative political party should be formed aside from the GOP and the Democrats. The poll that Musk had proposed on the 4th of July stated, "Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?"

The "yes" votes on the platform were around 65.4 percent of 1.2 million who voted and the "no" votes were 34.6 percent of those who voted in the poll.

Musk said when he announced the poll that the party would "laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts."

"Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people," he added a reply to the poll.

This comes after a public falling out with Trump, who the tech entrepreneur backed in the 2024 election against former Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk's disagreements with the president have been over the size of the spending that is in the package Trump signed into law on Friday.
