Conservative Leader and Leader of the Official Opposition Erin O'Toole condemned the Trudeau Liberal government's response to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
On Friday, after failing to get an answer the day before, Conservative MP Marty Morantz asked, "will the minister [of foreign affairs] declare, unequivocally, today that he supports Israel's right to defend itself?"
Foreign Affairs minister Marc Garneau responded by stating that "the indiscriminate barrage of rocket attacks fired by Hamas into populated areas of Israel is absolutely unacceptable, and must cease immediately." He added that, "Canada supports Israel's right to live in peace with its neighbours; within secure boundaries, and recognizes Israel's right, and in fact its duty, to assure its own security. ... Canada remains a steadfast ally of Israel, and a friend to the Palestinian people."
As Morantz explains in his tweet, "... again, [Garneau] refused to say those words."
This prompted O'Toole to take to Twitter, voicing his displeasure with the Trudeau government's stance.
He lamented the fact that "the Trudeau government won't confirm Israel's right to defend itself", calling it a "failure of leadership."
