Saifullah Khan, a former Yale student who was expelled from the university in 2019 after he had been falsely accused and acquitted of rape the year prior, has filed a defamation lawsuit against fifteen left-wing organizations and an attorney involved in aiding his accuser.

The complaint was filed at Hartford Superior Court on May 14. This is separate from the previous lawsuit Khan filed against Yale University and his accuser. The plaintiff alleges in the new complaint that the defendants defamed him by calling him a rapist.

Khan accuses the defendants of defamation, false light, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and abuse of processes. He is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory and punitive damages, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit states: "Plaintiff Saifullah Khan was acquitted of serious crimes in a court of law. But despite the jury's verdict of not guilty, Defendants, organizations with assets exceeding $200,000,000 and an experienced attorney, repeated allegations as facts in an application to file a brief with the Connecticut Supreme Court."

"Although the application was rejected by the Connecticut Supreme Court, and the defendant’s attorney would apologize for the language used in the brief, the rejected application remains published online permanently. Mr. Khan therefore brings this defamation, false light, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and abuse of process action, to recover damages for defendants’ grievous harm to the plaintiff’s reputation and well-being, and to vindicate his rights under law," the complaint reads.

In 2012, Khan, a citizen of Afghanistan, enrolled full scholarship at the Connecticut Ivy League school, specializing in neuroscience. An acquaintance of Khan's, 21, said that during an off-campus Halloween party, when she was quite inebriated, Khan sexually assaulted her. Khan's attorneys claimed during the trial that the interaction was consensual. The jury ruled in favor of Khan.

Following his acquittal in 2018, Khan was suspended from courses due to the charges but eventually resumed his studies that same year. Yale University expelled Khan from the institution in 2019 despite his acquittal.

Since 2019, Khan has had a $110 million defamation lawsuit pending against the Ivy League institution. The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled in June 2023 that his accuser could be added to the lawsuit on grounds that she shouldn't receive "qualified immunity."

Saifullah Khan told The Post Millennial, "Mob justice destroyed so many people. I was acquitted in a court of law, yet trusted and powerful organizations continue to defame me."

On why Khan filed a second defamation lawsuit, the falsely accused plaintiff told TPM: "It's akin to a sword of Damocles that perennially endangers my livelihood, reputation, and everything I do for the rest of my life."

Khan asserted he doesn't have a national broader agenda in the lawsuits. It's about clearing his name as a private person.

There are fifteen left-wing organizations and one attorney named in the complaint.

Becker, an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut who has an office in St. Paul, Minnesota; Jewish Women International, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; Legal Momentum, a nonprofit organization located in New York, NY and in Washington, DC; The Fierberg National Law Group, a professional limited liability corporation located in Traverse City, Michigan; Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation, a nonprofit organization located in Chicago, Illinois; Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a nonprofit corporation located in Glastonbury, Connecticut; Futures Without Violence, a nonprofit organization located in San Francisco, California; Advocates For Youth, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; National Alliance to End Sexual Violence, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a nonprofit organization located in Denver, Colorado; National Crime Victim Law Institute, a nonprofit organization located in Portland, Oregon; National Network to End Domestic Violence, Inc, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; National Women’s Law Center, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; Network for Victim Recovery of the District of Columbia, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC; Sanctuary for Families, Inc, a nonprofit organization located in New York, New York; and Women’s Law Project, a nonprofit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
