Long-time Biden and Democrat donor Hollywood A-lister George Clooney has called on the president to step aside from his campaign to win a second term in the White House. In a scathing op-ed in The New York Times, which has run numerous opinions and articles essentially calling for Biden to remove himself from the race, Clooney said "we are not going to win in November with this president."

Clooney just hosted a $14 million fundraiser in Hollywood for the president. Touting this accomplishment, Clooney says that it was "the single largest fund-raiser supporting any Democratic candidate ever, for President Biden’s re-election." This, even as his wife Amal has taken a hard stance against US backing of ally Israel in their fight against Hamas terrorists.

After praising Biden, speaking highly of his accomplishments, and discussing the reality of old age and aging, Clooney raised the question that has been on the lips of not only every Democrat in the US but every American: can he win? And the answer, for those who saw a man fighting a losing battle with old age not only on the debate stage against Donald Trump but in interviews and appearances ever since then, is no.

Clooney noted that many electeds have been avoiding the obvious questions that Biden's recent and apparent decline has posed. The White House has been covering for Biden for years, it turns out, which has been providing detailed maps for his speaking engagements, giving reporters scripted questions for interviews, and obfuscating his inability to do any real work after 8 pm.

"Is it fair to point these things out?" Clooney asked. "It has to be. This is about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly."

Further, Clooney says that questions asked about the viability of a democracy where a ruling party can run a bait and switch, pushing one candidate through primary season only to try to replace him with a newer model when his poll numbers tank and voters become convinced he's not up to the job, are "disingenuous." And in so doing, he leans into the word of other Democrat elected leaders.

"It is disingenuous, at best," Clooney says, "to argue that Democrats have already spoken with their vote and therefore the nomination is settled and done, when we just received new and upsetting information. We all think Republicans should abandon their nominee now that he’s been convicted of 34 felonies. That’s new and upsetting information as well. Top Democrats — Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi — and senators, representatives and other candidates who face losing in November need to ask this president to voluntarily step aside."

Comedian and host of The Daily Show Jon Stewart also claimed that this information was "new," though conservative pundits argue that they've been pointing this out for years. Yet when they did so, such as pointing out how Biden appeared to fall asleep while at a dinner honoring victims of the Maui fire last year, they were fact-checked mercilessly.

"Joe Biden is a hero," Clooney said in conclusion, "he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024."
