James Murdoch, brother of News Corp head Lachlan Murdoch, is leaving the company, citing disagreements over editorial content.

In a terse letter dated July 31st, Murdoch resigned, stating "My resignation is due to disagreements over certain editorial content published by the Company's news outlets and certain other strategic decisions."

Mediate's August Takala tweeted that Murdoch reportedly wants to "invest up to $1 billion in left-leaning media outlets."

News Corp publishes The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, and The Sun of London.

The New York Times is reporting that "a spokeswoman for Mr. Murdoch declined to comment further on Friday about the reasons for his departure, saying the letter 'speaks for itself.'"

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
