Ratcliffe is a former congressman from Texas and also served in Trump's first administration as the director of national intelligence for eight months.
When Trump announced that Ratcliffe as the pick for CIA Director, he wrote in a Truth Social post that Ratcliffe “has always been a warrior for Truth and Honesty with the American Public." The incoming CIA Director is reportedly expected to "come in like a wrecking ball" to DEI programs within the agency.
Ratcliffe’s experienced much scrutiny after he was tapped by Trump in the president’s first term to be the DNI, per Fox News. At the time, he was questioned over his experience and if he was qualified for the role. However, this time around, the nomination process for Ratcliffe to CIA Director has been much smoother, getting bipartisan approval from multiple Democratic senators.
The top Democratic senator on the Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner of Virginia, also voted in favor of Ratcliffe. He started serving in the House of Representatives in 2015 leading up to the DNI role in Trump's first term and represented the 4th Congressional District of Texas.
Ratcliffe vowed that he will eliminate "wokeness" from the CIA during a hearing last week. He added at the time that he also plans on getting the agency up to speed with the latest technology in order to improve efforts with the CIA.
In addition to Ratcliffe, Trump's pick for Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also been confirmed to his Cabinet. On Friday, a confirmation vote is also expected for Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
