Cannon said her order would "preserve status quo" as the court awaited the 11th Circuit’s decision on the separate emergency motion.
On Tuesday, US District Judge Aileen Cannon issued an order temporarily blocking special counsel Jack Smith from releasing his report on the federal cases against President-elect Donald Trump.
Lawyers for Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, co-defendants of Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case, filed a motion late Monday asking for Cannon to block the report, and cited Cannon’s previous ruling issued when she dismissed the case against Trump that Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional, per NBC News.
The injunction lasts until three days after the 11th Circuit rules on a pending request to block the release of the report over a separate matter involving Nauta and De Oliveira. Cannon said her order would "preserve status quo" as the court awaited the 11th Circuit’s decision on the separate emergency motion.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice, Smith, and "all of their officers, agents, and employees, and all persons acting in active concert or participation with such individuals" are temporarily blocked from "releasing, sharing, or transmitting the Final Report or any drafts of such Report outside the Department of Justice" and "otherwise releasing, distributing, conveying, or sharing with anyone outside the Department of Justice any information or conclusions in the Final Report or in drafts thereof."
