Chutkan said that the states had failed to show immediate irreparable harm would result from the pause not being issued.
On Tuesday, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied a request from 14 state attorneys general to issue a restraining order temporarily blocking the Department of Government Efficiency from firing federal employees and accessing data from around half a dozen agencies.
Chutkan said that the states had failed to show immediate irreparable harm would result from the pause not being issued, and noted that the court cannot act based on media reports, ABC News reported.
"Plaintiffs ask the court to take judicial notice of widespread media reports that DOGE has taken or will soon take certain actions, such as mass terminations," Chutkan wrote, adding that these reports can’t substitute for "specific facts in an affidavit or a verified complaint" that "clearly show that immediate and irreparable injury, loss, or damage will result."
