Kid Rock’s rendition of the song sat at the top slot as of Monday afternoon, followed by the original version of the song, performed by Cody Johnson, at number 2 and Bad Bunny’s DtMF at number 3.
In the wake of dueling Super Bowl halftime performances on Sunday night, Kid Rock’s cover of Til You Can’t has overtaken Bad Bunny’s DtMF for the top slot of iTunes.
Kid Rock’s rendition of the song sat at the top slot as of Monday afternoon, with the original version of the song, performed by Cody Johnson, sitting at number two. Bad Bunny’s DtMF, the title track off his latest album, sat at number three.
Kid Rock closed his performance at the Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show with the song, to which he added an additional verse from the original version. The verse read: "There's a book that's sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off / There's a man that died for all our sins hanging from the cross / You can give your life to Jesus and he'll give you a second chance / 'Til you can't, 'til you can’t."
A studio version of the song was released at midnight, with Kid Rock saying, "A big thank you to Cody Johnson and the songwriters Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers for giving me there blessing to record and release it, It really is one of the best written songs I have heard in a long time and NOTHING is more powerful than a great song in my book!"
Fans were seen singing along with Kid Rock's performance at his bar in Nashville, Tennessee.
The halftime show from Turning Point USA reached a record number of Americans through YouTube alone, being the number two YouTube livestream of all time and number one in the US. At its peak, a total of 6.17 million concurrent viewers watched the show. In addition to Kid Rock, the show featured performances from country stars Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Turning Point USA announced the showback in October as a celebration of "faith, family, and freedom" in opposition to the Super Bowl’s chosen performer, Bad Bunny.
