West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has privately been making the case for an election bid if President Joe Biden has a "health scare" or if former President Donald Trump is convicted of a crime.

According to Fox News, Manchin has said that he can "absolutely" see himself running for office in 2024 if either incident were to happen.

In a report from Sunday, Manchin said he believes that there is a role for him to be branded as the “fiscally responsible and socially compassionate” middle presidential pick."

If he were to run, he would do with using the “No Labels” group that has secured state ballot lines.

The group set a mid-March deadline to determine what they will do for backing a “unity ticket” bid.

Manchin has broken from the Democrat party on multiple different issues such as spending and the For the People Act.

The West Virginia senator has said previously that he was unsure of whether he would make a run for the office, however, he did not rule it out.

In a report last week from WGN9, Manchin told the outlet that he is considering the idea.

“I’m open to whatever it takes to save the country,” Manchin said. "You might be my opponent, but you’re not my enemy. You might have a different idea. But if we work together, we maybe can come up with a plan.”

“Is there a way to get President Biden back towards the middle a little bit, where he came from? He’s been pushed clear to the left," Manchin added.

However, fellow West Virginian Sen. Shelly Moore Capito has her doubts that Manchin could pull it off as a third-party candidate.

“I don’t know what the endgame is here. I don’t know. You know, he’s been touted as being, you know, some kind of a candidate or a brokered candidate for the president,” Sen. Moore Capito told the outlet.
