Teixeira oversaw an invite-only Discord channel, Thug Shaker Central, which had around 20 to 30 members, in which the documents were leaked.
On Thursday, the 21-year-old man wanted in connection to the leaking of hundreds of Pentagon classified documents was arrested in Massachusetts.
According to the New York Times, Jack Teixeira was arrested on Thursday afternoon after around half a dozen armed FBI agents entered the North Dighton property of the Massachusetts Air National Guard’s intelligence wing member.
Teixeira oversaw an invite-only Discord channel, Thug Shaker Central, which had around 20 to 30 members, in which the documents were leaked.
In a statement, the FBI said that an arrest had been made and is continuing to conduct “authorized law enforcement activity” at a residence in North Dighton.
Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder could not confirm to reporters if Teixeira was a person of interest, but two US officials confirmed to the outlet that investigators want to talk to the Airman about the leak. One official said Teixeira may have information relevant to the investigation.
According to the Washington Examiner, the documents were leaked to an invite-only Discord channel sometime in February, with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin saying that he was only made aware of the leak on April 6.
"A number of the Pentagon documents suggested that United States intelligence penetrated the highest levels of the Russian military, including information from the Russian Defense Ministry outlining attacks against two separate Ukrainian troop positions," the Washington Examiner reported.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
