RCMP Nova Scotia superintendent Chris Leather said on Wednesday that he believes the shooter in Nova Scotia shooting spree did not own a Firearms Acquisition Certificate that would have permitted him to legally own a firearm.
Leather said that the RCMP had a "fairly good idea, at least not in Canada that he did not have a FAC."

It was discovered yesterday that the shooter was banned from owning firearms following an assault conviction in 2001. The ban was lifted for the suspect, but he did not obtain an FAC.
The suspect was convicted for an assault which took place on October 29, 2001 but was conditionally discharged, according to court records. For nine months, he had to report to a prohibition officer.
The suspect was a 51-year-old denturist from Dartmouth. When the incident took place last weekend, he was impersonating a police office and driving a car that looked like a police cruiser.
