The Oregon man who rushed in to Silver Rail Elementary School and neutralized the 16-year-old mass shooter is a father of two young students. Kaylub Giamanco, 36, is being hailed as a hero for his swift actions that ended the teen killer's reign of terror, likely saving countless of lives.

Giamanco was driving home from work on a lunch break when gunman John J. Griffin fired shots into his vehicle as he passed by the school, Giamanco's family told Newsmax. Griffin then turned his sights on the school and Giamanco stormed in behind him. In just under three minutes, before police arrived, Giamanco had ended the threat.

The teen gunman shot and killed three students who were ages 5, 8, and 11. Two more victims, a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, remain hospitalized in critical condition. One teacher also died on scene, according to police.

Giamanco neutralized the shooter shortly after Griffin made it inside the building by shooting at door locks, according to Bend Police Chief Mike Kantz.

President Donald Trump praised the father of two as a "hero" while speaking to the press outside the White House of Friday.

"Thank God we had him, otherwise it would've been much worse," said President Trump. "It's a terrible thing, but thank goodness for a man that had a gun and knew how to use it."

The Bend Police Department first started receiving reports of an individual firing numerous shots into a vehicle at 12:59 pm. Shortly after, dispatch received dozens of 911 calls reporting that a gunman had entered the school and started shooting. Bend Police officers arrived on scene at approximately 1:02 pm. Seconds later, dispatch reported to officers that the suspect was neutralized.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek also honored Giamanco. "To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life: Your actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well," she said during a Thursday press briefing.
