2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has been ordered to pay $83 million in the defamation case brought forth by E Jean Carroll. Carroll claimed that Trump "raped" her somewhere around 1994 or 1996. She said she saved the Donna Karan dress she wore and posed in it for a New York Magazine cover story about the "hideous men" she's known.

Trump denied the allegations.

According to the New York Post, the 9-panel jury decided the damages Trump must pay after he was found liable of sexual assault and defamation in the spring. The jury reached a verdict in under three hours.

Carroll had sought $10 million, but her attorney upped that to $24 million during closing arguments, claiming that Trump should pay Carroll "at least" that much because "the only thing he cares about is money."

In a statement to posted to Truth Social, Trump said following the verdict, "Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!

Lawyers for Carroll claimed that Trump "unleashed his followers" on Carroll, with Carroll receiving messages and death threats.

Alina Habba, attorney for Trump, argued that these messages began after Carroll went public with her allegations in June 2019, indicating that she would have been subject to such messages anyway.

"President Trump should not have to pay for their threats," Habba said. "He did not condone them, he did not direct them, he just told his truth."
