Shots rang out as Trump was speaking to the crowd on Saturday during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available," said Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Trump later posted a statement on Truth Social that said his right ear had been "pierced" by the shots.

Snipers were able to engage and neutralize the shooter during the chaos as it ensued.

In a statement from the Secret Service, the agency confirmed that the shooter was dead. Additionally, one was fatally shot and two others were in critical condition after the assasination attempt on Trump.

"During former President Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on the evening of July 13th at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated. One spectator was killed, two spectators were critically injured. The incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of investigation."
