BREAKING: President Trump signs order designating Antifa a domestic terrorist operation

President Donald Trump has issued an executive order formally designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, marking the most direct federal action against the group to date.

The order characterizes Antifa as a “militarist, anarchist enterprise” intent on overthrowing the US government and law enforcement. In the the statement, it says the organization orchestrates campaigns of violence across the country, including riots, assaults on officers, armed standoffs, and harassment of political figures. According to the text, Antifa not only recruits and radicalizes young Americans but also works to hide its funding and shield the identities of its members.

“Antifa recruits, trains, and radicalizes young Americans to engage in this violence and suppression of political activity,” the order states.

Trump’s directive calls Antifa a “domestic terrorist organization” and thus it instructs all relevant federal departments and agencies to use existing authority to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations.” That includes prosecuting individuals and organizations accused of providing financial or material support.

The order also makes clear that its implementation must remain consistent with current law and does not create new legal rights or avenues of enforcement against the US government. It directs that the measure be published. In the Federal Register.

Trump and other Republican leaders have said for years that the militant group poses a national security threat, with Trump being president for much of the group's well-documented chaos durihg his first term in office.

A release from the White House listed out several severe incidents of violence by the group, including several that have taken place during Trump's second term alone. These include: 

Antifa has a long history of terrorizing our communities:

• In July 2025, members of an Antifa cell ambushed officers at an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. After defacing vehicles with anti-ICE graffiti — including “ICE pig” and “F— you pigs” — the assailants lured officers out of the building and opened fire, shooting one officer in the neck.
• In July 2025, deranged rioters viciously assaulted federal agents at an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. Officers at the facility — which had been targeted by the local Antifa terror cell for weeks — were kicked, punched, and targeted with an “incendiary device.”
• In February 2024, a transgender Antifa terrorist detonated an explosive device outside the office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. The terrorist left behind numerous stickers with Antifa slogans and anarchist symbols.
