The sentence matches the longest one handed down to any of the over 1,000 January 6 defendants.
A 33-year-old member of the Proud Boys has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for seditious conspiracy and other federal counts in connection to the riot on January 6, 2021 at the US Capitol building.
According to the BBC, Ethan Nordean, also known by his alias Rufio Panman, was also charged with obstruction of law enforcement and conspiracy, among other counts.
The sentence matches the longest one handed down to any of the over 1,000 January 6 defendants. In May, Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was also sentenced to 18 years in prison for seditious conspiracy, among other charges.
Dominic Pezzola, also a member of the group, was also sentenced on Thursday, receiving 10 years for assaulting police and obstructing an official proceeding.
On Thursday, Joe Biggs received a 17-year sentence, and Zachary Rehl was sentenced to 15 years. Former group head Enrique Tarrio is set to be sentenced next week, and faces up to 33 years in prison. Sentencing earlier in the week was paused due to an unspecified "emergency."
Pezzola was the only one of the five to be acquitted of seditious conspiracy.
