Florida's 1st district election for the US House of Representatives has been won by Republican Jimmy Patronis over Democrat Gay Valimont. Republicans will maintain both seats in Florida that were vacated by Republican lawmakers after Randy Fine won is Florida's 6th congressional district.

Patronis will take home the win with the seat in the first district that was previously held by former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), according to the New York Times. The district is on the western panhandle of the state.

The victory follows another GOP win with Republican Randy Fine in the sixth district of the state, who won against Democrat Josh Weil earlier on Tuesday in another special election. Before the two GOP wins, the Republicans had a razor thin majority in the House of Representatives of 218 to 213, and four seats have been vacant.

Both races will increase that to a count of 220 to 213 in the House, leaving some breathing room if there are defecting lawmakers from the Republican caucus on party line votes.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social in reaction to the races going to the GOP, "BOTH FLORIDA HOUSE SEATS HAVE BEEN WON, BIG, BY THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. THE TRUMP ENDORSEMENT, AS ALWAYS, PROVED FAR GREATER THAN THE DEMOCRATS FORCES OF EVIL. CONGRATULATIONS TO AMERICA!!!"

In another post he wrote, "Jimmy Patronis WINS BIG! Congratulations Jimmy."

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote in reaction to the win from Patronis, "Valimont raised $6.5 million compared to Patronis’ $2.1 million, and still lost. Republican HOLD. All eyes turn to Wisconsin."

Later on Tuesday, the state Supreme Court election will take place, and has been seen as a pivotal race, as the outcome could potentially mean redistricting of congressional lines in the state and impact the outcome of the next midterm elections.
