BREAKING: GOP Randy Fine wins Florida's 6th district House race, filling seat left by Mike Waltz

After polls closed on Tuesday evening in Florida's special election in the 6th district, Republican Randy Fine beat out Democrat Josh Weil, per The Hill. With the win from Fine, the razor thin GOP House majority widens, giving some more breathing room for Republican lawmakers in Congress. 

The race between Fine and Weil was close going into the weekend, according to some early voting results. Fine will fill the seat left empty in the House of Representatives after Mike Waltz was appointed to be President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social in reaction to Fine's win. 



Leading up to the special election, the GOP had a majority of 218 to 213 and with four seats vacant in the House. Republicans went into the election with some worried about how close the election appeared.

Along with those concerns, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the UN ambassador for the US, had her nomination pulled by Trump and will continue to serve in the House of Representatives instead due to worries over the slim majority. 

Also in Florida, the first district is up for grabs in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). The election in the first district is seen as safer territory for Republicans to fill the seat left vacant by Gaetz with Republican Jimmy Patronis, who was facing Democrat Gay Valimont on Tuesday at the same time as the sixth district election. 

Additionally, the Wisconsin Supreme Court election happening on Tuesday, along with the sixth district in Florida, has been seen as significant. Polls close at 9pm local time in Wisconsin as voters determine if conservative Judge Brad Schimel or the more liberal Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford, will fill a seat on the court. 

Although not a direct election to the House of Representatives, Republicans as well as Democrats have been making a huge get out the vote effort in the Wisconsin election, as the state supreme court could end up redistricting congressional lines in the state, with the potential to change two congressional seats currently filled by Republicans.
