The All-In Summit taking place in Los Angeles included Huang, as well as the hosts of the All-In Podcast, and Trump called in, where Huang then put him on speakerphone. The comments from Trump come as he has been pushing for AI companies to go full speed on development as they are competing with China.
Commenting on how there is a "conspiracy" to slow down AI, he said that China is "very happy" that people are fighting against its development.
"I’m telling you, it’s all a hoax," Trump said. "The data centers are great, and they make people wealthy, and they make states wealthy, and it's the oil of the next 20–25 years. It's bigger than the internet."
Speaking about those that want to slow down AI, he added, "They're just playing right into the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen. And that could be political people. It could also be China. And we're not going to let that happen. It's a hoax.
He added that robots "are not going to be taking over the world, and that's not going to happen."
On Monday, the president also wrote a series of posts on Truth Social calling for faster AI development. "The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the USA has that, in spades! The Trump Administration has stopped AI 'people' from doing bad, or potentially bad, 'things,' like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a 'perfect little angel' - and we will continue to do so!" Trump said.
Dario Amodei, the head of Anthropic, wrote in an essay that there should be a "slow down" of AI and called for more regulations and guardrails around the technology. After he published that piece, China also said that the move by the tech CEO was a "Cold War playbook" move to drown out competition in China.
