According to David Akin, Chief Political Correspondent for Global News, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce this evening that Canada is restricting inbound flights from the UK, following the lead of European countries.
A growing number of European nations have banned flights from the UK in an attempt to stop a new mutated strain of the coronavirus crossing their borders.
International traffic into the UK remains heavy, despite the current increase in virus cases, both within the UK, and other European countries from which trips are originating.
France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria and the Netherlands are stopping flights arriving from the UK. The Czech Republic imposed stricter quarantine measures for people arriving from Britain. Ireland said on Sunday that it was imposing a 48-hour ban on flights from Britain to Ireland.
The UK began its vaccination process on December 8th. Health minister Hancock announced that by December 21st, half a million Brits would be inoculated against the virus.
