"The application for injunction pending appeal presented to Justice Barrett and by her referred to the court is denied."
In a pair of orders issued on Tuesday, the Supreme Court denied former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr’s bid seeking the removal of his name from the ballots in the swing states of Wisconsin and Michigan.
"The application for injunction pending appeal presented to Justice Barrett and by her referred to the court is denied," the one-sentence order in the Wisconsin case read.
The order for the Michigan case read similarly, with Justice Neil Gorsuch dissenting. "Respectfully, I dissent for substantially the reasons given by Judges Thapar, Readler, and McKeague," Gorsuch wrote.
According to NBC News, since voting is already underway in both states it was unlikely the Supreme Court would have granted the requests. Over 850,000 absentee ballots have been returned in Wisconsin, while more than 1.5 million have been returned in Michigan. An additional 250,000 people have voted in person in Michigan.
After dropping out of the race in August, Kennedy threw his support behind Trump. Kennedy has urged his supporters to cast their ballot for Trump, saying that "A Trump victory is a Kennedy victory."
