BREAKING: Suspect killed after staging 'hostage situation' at Florida bank

A suspect who allegedly claimed to have explosives on him while taking hostages in a Fort Myers, Florida Bank of America has been killed. 

According to a witness of the incident who spoke to NBC2, a man entered the Bank of America and started to say that he had a bomb on him. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told the outlet that the man held two hostages inside the bank. 



Deputies told the news outlet that the man put one person in a headlock and put a knife to her throat. SWAT snipers were then able to kill the suspect the moment he showed signs of carrying out deadly force. The sniper is on administrative leave as part of normal protocol procedures. 

Video posted to X showed law enforcement rushing to the scene. 

An announcement about the "hostage situation" was posted to Marceno's X account.



"Sheriff Carmine Marceno is announcing details regarding a hostage situation at Bank of America. One suspect presented with deadly force and is confirmed dead on scene. Hostages are safe and no injuries reported. The case remains active." 

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the mid-morning with local officers, SWAT, and the FBI responding to the situation.
