Over the weekend, lunatics with Nazi flags and antisemitic signs attempted to disrupt TPUSA's Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida, and were promptly sent packing by conservative attendees and the press.
Nonetheless, hosts of The View smeared TPUSA, attempting to link the neo-Nazi group with the student conference. On Wednesday, following the threat of legal action, The View issued a formal, on-air apology to TPUSA for their comments.
"On Monday we talked about the fact that there were openly neo-Nazi demonstrators outside the Florida Student Action Summit of the Turning Point USA group," co-host Sara Haines began, though that was not a fact at all.
"We wanna make clear that these demonstrators were gathered outside the event and that they were not invited or endorsed by Turning Point USA."
In their original discussion, co-host Whoopi Goldberg had suggested the neo-Nazis were inside the event, a statement she was forced to correct later during the show.
Haines then went on to reference a statement from TPUSA which said that the group "100 percent condemns those ideologies."
TPUSA explained that security tried to remove the demonstrators, but could not due to the fact that they were on public property.
During their discussion of the event, "The View" had suggested that the Student Action Summit was a "Republican Party event." That statement was also withdrawn and corrected.
"We apologize for anything we said that may have been unclear on these points," Haines concluded.
After TPUSA called out "The View" on Twitter for making openly and provably false statements, conservative politicians, commentators, and supporters defended the organization and got the hashtag #SUETHEVIEW trending.
Human Events Daily host and Turning Point USA contributor Jack Posobiec called "The View's" actions "textbook" defamation.
"I was standing outside when this incident happened," he added. "TPUSA attendees confronted the agitators."
On his show, Tim Pool pointed out that the demonstrators were nothing but "weirdos waving flags outside the event."
"Freshly unfolded flags," his producer Lydia added.
