Todd Blanche has officially been sworn in as Attorney General, coming after the Senate confirmed him in a 50-49 vote early Saturday morning. Blanche was seen being sworn in inside the Oval Office on Monday afternoon.

The prior Attorney General, Pam Bondi, was ousted in April, leading to Blanche, then-Deputy Attorney General, serving as the interim Attorney General.

In the Saturday morning vote, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana cast the necessary vote to get Blanche across the finish line. Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins both voted with Democrats against Blanche.

Blanche’s confirmation was held up over concerns on a compensation fund set up for victims of a weaponized Department of Justice under the Biden administration. That fund was eventually scrapped, however, the fund was a pivotal issue for Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.

"Mr. Blanche is not perfect," said Cassidy on the Senate floor, "and he will tell you thin, but the choice if not between perfection and Mr. Blanche, it is between Mr. Blanche and another acting attorney general who may not run the department as effectively under President Trump and who, indeed, may not be as good as Mr. Blanche."

This is a breaking story.
