Canada’s Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced Wednesday that fully vaccinated Canadians can soon get a vaccine passport to travel internationally.
"The government is collaborating with provinces, territories and Indigenous communities to address the matter of vaccine credentials," said Mendicino. "I’m pleased to inform Canadians that we are working actively… to secure pan-Canadian proof of vaccination for international travel."
"These credentials will have a common design across all provinces," he added. "They will include the holder’s COVID-19 vaccination history, including the vaccine types, date, and location."
"These documents should be available to all Canadian citizens, permanent residents and temporary residents living in Canada if they’re fully vaccinated, according to the standards set by public health."
Quebec's health minister Christian Dube announced Tuesday that his province would introduce a provincial vaccine passport on September 1. Dube said he wants to avoid another lockdown and said the passport is crucial for areas and activities with high contact and socialization rates.
