President-elect Donald Trump’s Monday inauguration is expected to be moved indoors due to cold temperatures that will hit the region in the beginning half of the week. It is expected to hit a high of 25 on Monday, with wind chills dropping temps to 12 degrees.

Sources with direct knowledge of the plans told CNN that plans are underway to have Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance sworn in inside the Capitol Rotunda. Discussions are also underway regarding the inaugural parade and other celebrations, with some festivities being eyed to be held at the Capitol One arena, where Trump will be holding a rally the day prior.

In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump announced that he has ordered the ceremony to be moved indoors. He included a graphic from the National Weather Service that stated at noon, when Trump is set to be sworn in, the wind chill will be between 8 and 10 degrees.

Trump wrote, "January 20th cannot come fast enough! Everybody, even those that initially opposed a Victory by President Donald J. Trump and the Trump Administration, just want it to happen. It is my obligation to protect the People of our Country but, before we even begin, we have to think of the Inauguration itself. The weather forecast for Washington, DC, with the windchill factor, could take temperatures into severe record lows. There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country. I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way. It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of Law Enforcement, First Responders, Police K9s and even horses, and hundreds of thousands of supporters that will be outside for many hours on the 20th (In any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly!)."

"Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather. The various Dignitaries and Guests will be brought into the Capitol. This will be a very beautiful experience for all, and especially for the large TV audience," he added.

Trump said that Capital One Arena in downtown DC will be open on Monday for a live viewing of the swearing-in, and Trump would join the crowd there after his inauguration.
