President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday that he will be dropping Ed Martin’s nomination for US Attorney for Washington DC, and that a replacement would be announced in the following days.

Speaking about Martin, Trump said, "He is a terrific person. He wasn't getting the support from people that I thought. You know, he’s done a very good job. Crime is down 25 percent in DC during his period of time. I’m very disappointed in that."

"We have somebody else that will be great," Trump continued. "I just want to say, Ed is unbelievable. Hopefully we can bring him into, whether its DOJ or whatever, in some capacity."

This comes after GOP Senator Thom Tillis said that he would oppose Martin’s nomination. Tillis cited concerns about Martin’s past legal work and comments related to January 6. Tillis said, "I have no tolerance for anybody that entered the building on Jan. 6, and that’s probably where most of the friction was."

In April, Senator Adam Schiff said that he would place a hold on Martin’s nomination and "block attempts to jam through his appointment at every stage."
