"Since Inauguration Day, Ed has been doing a great job as Interim US Attorney, fighting tirelessly to restore Law and Order, and make our Nation’s Capital Safe and Beautiful Again."
Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday, “It is my honor to nominate highly respected Edward R. Martin, Jr., for the full and permanent term of United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Ed has led a distinguished career of service, including as Human Rights Office Director for the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis, where he supervised legal clinics for low-income residents. He later worked as judicial clerk to Judge Pasco M. Bowman, II, of the Eight Circuit Court of Appeals, and launched his own successful Law practice.”

"He has also invested his expertise in other roles, but always with the same goal, of serving his community, and creating a brighter future for all. Since Inauguration Day, Ed has been doing a great job as Interim U.S. Attorney, fighting tirelessly to restore Law and Order, and make our Nation’s Capital Safe and Beautiful Again. He will get the job done," Trump added.
As interim US attorney, Martin oversaw the pardons of hundreds of individuals involved in J6 and the Capitol riot. He is listed as the attorney for at least three Capitol defendants, according to The Hill, and was in Washington, DC himself when the events occurred.
Martin has defended Musk as well as DOGE staffers as they were targeted in the media and by left-wing pundits as they have been looking to cut more waste in the federal government. Some DOGE staffers were subject to doxxing online and Martin offered legal assistance at the time.
"I recognize that some of the staff at DOGE has been targeted publicly. At this time, I ask that you utilize me and my staff to assist in protecting DOGE work and the DOGE workers. Any threats, confrontations, or other actions in any way that impact their work may break numerous laws,” Martin wrote in a letter to Musk.
He added, “Let me assure you of this: we will pursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes your work or threatens your people.”
