President Donald Trump has recommended that Lindsay Graham's sister, Darline, serve as interim Senator and fill her brother's seat in Congress after Graham's death over the weekend.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!"

Graham died over the weekend at the age of 71. He had just returned from a trip to Ukraine and his team said that he died of a "brief and sudden illness" which was later revealed to be an "Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease" from a preliminary report from the medical examiner.

According to a statement from his office, "The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death."

Graham's sister, Darline Graham Nordone, is married to Larry Nordone and has kept a relatively low profile compared to her brother. She has raised two daughters with her husband and has occasionally stepped into the spotlight during Lindsay;'s career in politics.

Graham's parents died while he was in his early 20s. He later joined the Air Force so that Darline, a teenager at the time, could receive military benefits after he became her legal guardian.
