BREAKING: Trump says his generals think Beirut explosion was an attack

US President Donald Trump told press today that the explosions that rocked Beirut, Lebanon, were not an accident. He has been informed that it may have been "a bomb of some kind."

US President Donald Trump told press today that the explosions that rocked Beirut, Lebanon, were not an accident. He has been informed that it may have been "a bomb of some kind."

He was asked if he was confident that this was an attack and not an accident.

"It would seem like it, based on the explosion, I've met with some of our great generals, and they just seemed to feel that it was. This was not some kind of a manufacturing explosion type of event... this was a, seems to be according to them, and they would know better than I would, but they seem to think it was an attack. It was a bomb of some kind, yes."

The explosions shook Beirut today, and the death toll continues to climb, while injuries are reported to be over 4,000. The Lebanese security council have reported 75 deaths so far, though the count has not yet concluded.

Of Beirut's three main hospitals, the Hotel Dieu de France Hospital has said that they have already reached their capacity. Over 500 wounded have arrived there for care. The report that "dozens" of surgeries will be needed. The Red Cross, who has been called on for aid, has reported that they are "overwhelmed" as they began using food trucks to transport people.

Why this possible attack may have been carried out is not known, and no group has yet taken responsibility.
