"The White House Correspondents' Association has asked me, very nicely, to be the Honoree at this year’s Dinner, a long and storied tradition since it began in 1924, under then President Calvin Coolidge," Trump wrote. The event is scheduled to take place in April.

"Because the Press was extraordinarily bad to me, FAKE NEWS ALL, right from the beginning of my First Term, I boycotted the event, and never went as Honoree. However, I look forward to being with everyone this year. Hopefully, it will be something Special."
In the early weeks of Trump’s second term, the White House took over control of assigning press pool rotations for journalists covering the president from the White House Correspondents’ Association. The move drew criticism, with the WHCA board writing at the time, "If the White House pushes forward, it will become even more clear that the administration is seeking to cynically seize control of the system through which the independent press organizes itself, so that it is easier to exact punishment on outlets over their coverage."
Comedian Amber Ruffin was removed from the 2025 dinner lineup after she claimed that the Trump administration was full of "murderers." The board said the decision was " ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists."
