Ted Kaczynski, the mathematician well-known for his hermit lifestyle and 17-year bombing campaign which reportedly targeted scientists, was declared dead by authorities on Saturday morning at 81 years old.
Associated Press reported that a spokesperson for the federal Bureau of Prisons said that Kaczynski was found unresponsive in his sell early in the morning, and was soon thereafter determined to be dead around 8 a.m.
Originally, it took the FBI almost two decades to track The Unabomber down prior to his arrest, according to the organization's posted history on the case.
Kaczynski's death comes after he was moved into a prison medical facility in North Carolina Dec. 2021, following a much longer stint at a federal Supermax prison in Colorado.
