Former GOP candidate for president and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is reportedly planning to announce a gubernatorial run for Ohio. This comes after it has been revealed that Governor Mike DeWine is expected to appoint Jon Husted to fill JD Vance's vacant Senate seat.

According to the Washington Post, a source close to the situation said, “Vivek’s base plan remains [the] same: to get accomplishments at DOGE and then announce a run for governor shortly."

The statement is drafted. It is ready," said another source that reportedly spoke to Ramaswamy recently about the issue.

Ramaswamy, who has been tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Elon Musk, ran in the GOP presidential primary. However, Trump wants the work of DOGE completed “no later” than July 4, 2026. The non-governmental entity will work to prescribe policy positions in order to cut spending from the federal government and remove regulations.

The end date happens to be just before the gubernatorial election in Ohio which takes place later in November 2026. Ramaswamy dropped out of the presidential race in January last year, but by participating in the race, lifted his name recognition substantially.

Trump reportedly encouraged Ramaswamy to fill the Senate seat for Ohio if DeWine chose him to fill Vance’s vacant seat in the Senate, but some also thought he could make a run for Ohio governor leading up to Friday.

Ramaswamy is the founder of pharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences as well as Strive Asset Management, an Ohio-based asset investment firm that branded itself as rejecting ESG as well as DEI by investing in companies working towards better services instead of spending time on left-wing policies.
