Davis was identified as a suspect on Tuesday.
Kruger, 39, was shot seven times in his own home on the 2300 block of Watkins Street around 1:30 am. Davis was identified as a suspect the following day.
According to NBC10, Davis has been described as a 5 foot 5 inch tall black male weighing 160 pounds. His last known address is around two blocks away from Kruger's apartment.
He is believed to be armed and dangerous, and police have warned those who spot him not to get too close.
A motive for the shooting has not been revealed, however Police Commissioner Frank Vanore stated earlier this week that authorities believe Kruger and Davis knew each other.
In April, a man with whom Kruger had previously had a relationship broke into his home. Vanore did not say whether Davis was the suspect in that incident.
"The door was locked, so he had somehow obtained a copy of my keys," Kruger reportedly said, explaining that he managed to de-escalate the situation and get the man to leave.
"Drugs can help but also exacerbate mental health problems,” Kruger added.
Following his death, tributes from local leaders and residents poured in.
"He cared deeply about our city and its residents, which was evident in his public service and writing," Mayor Jim Kenney said.
Others drew attention to comments Kruger had made about gun violence, including one post in which he decried the idea that people in Philadelphia were "more likely to get shot and killed than die of COVID in Philly."
"Folks, four times as many Philadelphians have died of COVID than gun shots this year," he said. "I understand math is hard but do better."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
