Nurses in Britain have been fired from their jobs for raising concerns about (male to female) transgender patients in women’s only wards, the Parliament has heard.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne warned that the privacy, dignity, and safety of female patients was being compromised by the government’s adherence to woke narratives and imposition of “inclusivity”-based policies.

She told Parliament that the policies imposed by the NHS is allowing male patients who self-identify as women to be placed in single-sex wards, causing the safety of women to be “diminished severely,” the Daily Mail reported.

Lady Nicholson called for patients to be allocated to wards based on their birth sex, and said that existing policies are now affecting the ability of nurses to do their job. According to the peer, a nurse said that under her hospital Trust’s policy, “trans rights supersede all other rights and concerns.”

The peer informed parliament that nurses are “inhibited” from speaking out about the issue out of fear of being branded transphobes or fired from work.

“I have met several nurses who have lost their jobs because of this,” she said. “A doctor recently delivered a baby, he said it was a girl and he was accused of transphobia.”

She highlighted an NHS England policy stating that transgender people should be accommodated “according to their presentation: the way they dress, and the name and pronouns they currently use”, and not their biological sex.

In response, health minister Lord Kamall said NHS England is currently reviewing the policy “to ensure that it remains focused on privacy, safety and dignity for all patients.” The review is expected to be published this year.

Not backing down, Lady Nicholson argued that “the rights of another group do not supersede the rights of the group that is already there.”

“My contention is that the dignity, the privacy and the safety of women patients which has been fought over for several decades... is now being diminished significantly and their health undermined, their recovery from illness significantly undermined, by the imposition of new rights of others on top of women’s rights,” she said.

“It amuses me that nobody is suggesting they should be on top of men’s rights. This is a matter of great concern to all women.”

The Baroness’s amendment to the Health and Care Bill calling for patients to be put in wards according to their birth sex was rejected by peers, who opted to privilege transgender-identifying individuals over women.
