Canada has recorded a record low temperature this weekend, as temperatures soared beneath -51 degrees Celsius.
This temperature is reportedly the lowest in eight years, according to the Weather Network. These temperatures started sweeping across Canada on Sunday and will continue over the next few days.
This has affected the northern and western Canada in particular. Yellowknife and parts of Norther Alberta felt the full force of the negative 50 degrees. The Yukon and parts of British Columbia were also very cold.
With wind chill, these places may have been even colder.
A polar vortex has swept down from the North Pole this December and remains hovering over western Canada. Regina and Edmonton will continue to suffer through ice cold temperatures for some time.
Weather experts have said parts of the southern prairies alongside Alberta will also be feeling temperatures of negative 30 to 40.
The last time a temperature this cold was recorded was in 2013 in Nunavut. It is tough to say whether it has gotten any colder than this as there are few weather stations in northern Canada.
