"Charlie Kirk died as he lived: propagating hateful myths about marginalized groups in our society."
The publication has continued to produce political commentary attacking conservatives, including multiple articles attacking Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre and Canadian conservatives. Cult MTL published its article about Kirk on September 11, 2025, one day after Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Utah.
The article began by declaring that “Charlie Kirk died as he lived: propagating hateful myths about marginalized groups in our society."
The article said half-heartedly that there was “no excuse for political violence,” while saying that Kirk had spent his adult life “pouring fuel on the fire.”
"Charlie Kirk died as he lived: propagating hateful myths about marginalized groups in our society. Literally," the article reads. "He was shot seconds after falsely insinuating that transgender people are more prone to committing mass shootings. Kirk became rich and famous spreading hateful lies, trafficking in conspiracy theories (some of which were antisemitic) and railing against the LGBTQ community. Ironically, he argued that school shootings were a small price to pay for the Second Amendment. He was not simply a right-wing pundit with whom one might disagree in polite conversation. He was both a profiteer and architect of America’s increasingly violent culture war.
"This isn’t a 'both sides' event — political violence in America is almost exclusively the realm of the political right. Put another way, there is no left-wing equivalent to Charlie Kirk — that’s how extreme he was. Trump will likely use his death to further the destruction of U.S. democracy," the article continued. "There’s no excuse for political violence — but Charlie Kirk is absolutely responsible for making political violence more likely in America. He never 'lowered the temperature' as so many politicians and pundits are now disingenuously pleading; he spent his entire adult life pouring fuel on the fire.
"You reap what you sow," it states.
Cult MTL’s article was written by Taylor C. Noakes, who has continued to work for them writing political commentary through the outlet. The publication’s current website includes editorials calling the Conservative Party “rage-bait and disinformation” peddlers and calling Poilievre an “alt-right” politician.
The article about Kirk was published on the day after his assassination and was subsequently cited in Parliament during a House of Commons committee hearing concerning Cult MTL. Conservative MP Rachael Thomas specifically referenced the headline and the article’s closing line during the hearing.
Carney himself had previously condemned Kirk’s murder, writing on X shortly after the assassination that he was “appalled by the murder of Charlie Kirk” and that there was no justification for political violence.
