Conservative MP Candice Bergen is urging parliament to do more to protect Ukraine's airspace.
As Putin's invasion of Ukraine continues, the global community has come together to condemn Russian attacks, some of which have hit civilian areas.
Following a string of aerial attacks over the past week, many have highlighted the need to strengthen the nation's airspace.
On Wednesday, Conservative MP Candice Bergen discussed the issue while addressing parliament.
"We must stand with Ukraine," Bergen began. "It is not a choice, it is a moral duty. Canada was the first country to recognize Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union, now it's time to honour that legacy."
"We must do more, together with our allies, to secure Ukraine's airspace," Bergen said. This statement was met with applause from her fellow members of parliament.
"We need to protect, at a minimum, the airspace over the humanitarian corridors," Bergen continued, "so that Ukrainians can seek safe passage away from the war zones, and to allow humanitarian relief to reach those areas under siege."
On Tuesday, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to parliament, urging the Canadian government to back a "no-fly zone" over his nation.
"Close the airspace please to stop the bombing," he pleaded. "How many more cruise missiles have to fall on our cities until you make this happen?"
