A car with human remains was found burning near Sudbury, Ontario on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police say the vehicle was discovered near Kukagami Lake Road in Markstay-Warren, just five kilometres north of Highway 17, reports Canadian Press.

Police say that an investigation is underway, as the Ontario Fire Marshall, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and OPP specialty units begin with their search.

"At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed," police said in a news release.

"The public can expect to see a large police presence in that area as several specialty units have been deployed to assist," police wrote in a statement. "Further information will be released as it becomes available."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
