Catholic voters favor Trump in swing states: NCR poll

Former president Donald Trump has a five-point lead over Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris among Catholics in seven swing states, a new poll has revealed. 

The National Catholic Reporter poll found that Trump leads Harris 50 to 45 percent across the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin among voters who said they would definitely or probably vote for Trump.

Trump leads Harris among Catholics overall in Arizona (51 to 42 percent), Georgia (51 to 45 percent), Michigan (54 to 41 percent), North Carolina (47 to 46 percent), and Wisconsin (57 to 39 percent), while Harris leads Trummp 50 to 45 percent in Nevada and 50 to 48 percent in Pennsylvania.

Harris leads Trump among Hispanic Catholics, 67 to 28 percent, and more than three-quarters of black Catholics favor Harris, while Trump leads Harris among white Catholics (56 to 39 percent).


The NCR poll was conducted by Mercury Analytics between October 3 and 8, and it included 1,172 Catholic voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. It has a margin of error of 2.86 percent.

The issues seen as most important to the Catholic voters polled were the economy, with 26 percent responding as such when asked to select one, immigration and the border, with 20 percent responding as such, and abortion and reproductive rights, with 13 percent responding as such.

Catholic voters in the swing states 65 years or older opted for Trump over Harris 50 to 46 percent, with voters in the 50 to 64 age bracket heavily favoring the former president 54 to 43 percent. Among Catholic voters between the ages of 30 and 49, 49 percent said they would vote for Trump while 45 percent said they would vote for Harris.
