CBC slammed for saying Canadian murdered by Hamas died 'as a result of the conflict'

The family of Vital-Kaploun, a 33-year-old mother of two and dual Canadian-Israeli citizen, said in no uncertain terms that she had been "murdered in her home just for being Jewish."

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Adi Vital-Kaploun had been murdered by Hamas on her kibbutz in Israel during the Iranian-backed Palestinian terrorist group's attack over the weekend, making her the third Canadian citizen among the victims.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Vital-Kaploun's death, but instead of stating in the headline that she was killed by Hamas terrorists, they simply chalked her death up to "a result of the conflict." The state-funded media outlet was criticized on social media, and while they have since deleted their post on X, the story still exists in its original form on their website.

"She's dead because Hamas terrorists murdered her," Chaya Raichik, Libs of TikTok founder, said. "Why is it so hard for you guys to call terrorists, terrorists?"

"'Conflict' What an insult!" another user replied.

Other outlets, such as the Ottawa Citizen, did not shy away from noting up front and center that Vital-Kaploun had been killed by Hamas terrorists.

While the CBC did note that Vital-Kaploun was "murdered by terrorists," they made sure to add that it was her family's claim.

On Tuesday, a leaked email from the CBC's Director of Journalistic Standards George Achi revealed that in his attempt to ensure the outlet remained as neutral as possible, he had gone so far as to warn against referring to members of Hamas as terrorists, even though they are classified as such by the Canadian government.

Achi asked reporters to re-read the CBC Language Guide's entry on the Middle East, reminding them they were entering into "a period of intense coverage."

"Do not refer to militants, soldiers, or anyone else as 'terrorists,' a highlighted section stated, suggesting "the notion of terrorism remains heavily politicized and is part of the story."

Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe extended his condolences, making sure to note that her killers were terrorists.
