Charles Barkley has doubled down on his condemnation of black Americans who wear clothing depicting Donald Trump's mugshot, saying he thought they were "freakin' idiots."

The NBA commentator ruffled feathers earlier this week when he stated on national television that he would punch any black American he saw walking around dressed in garments depicting the former president, who while addressing the Black Conservative Federation last week suggested black people could empathize with how he's been treated by the justice system in America.

"Obviously I'm not going to go around punching random strangers in the face," he told CNN's Gayle King during Wednesday's episode of King Charles, making it clear that he believed "people can vote for who they want to."

"The point I was trying to make, no, the point I was making," he added, "when Donald Trump compares his plight with that of that black person, that is what I had a problem with. I want to make it perfectly clear: if you're a black person and you're wearing a Donald Trump mugshot, you are a freakin' idiot, and I'm only saying freakin' idiot because they won't let me say what I really wanna say, but you can figure it out."

Two days prior, Barkley had told King, "If I see a black person walking around with a Trump mugshot, I'm gonna punch them in the face."

King pushed back, suggesting he "didn't mean that," but Barkley replied, "I mean that sincerely."

When reminded that he would get charged with assault and be taken to jail if he pulled that kind of stunt, Barkley brushed it off, saying, "I'd bail myself out and go celebrate."

Barkley's comments drew the ire of many, including internet personality, host of the Reasonable Suspicion podcast, and Trump supporter Zeek Arkham.

"Anyone seen Charles Barkley? I heard he was looking for me," Arkham wrote in a post on X showing off his Trump mugshot t-shirt. "I grew up in the 'you hit me, I’m gonna hit you back' era."
