Comedian Chelsea Handler admitted on a recent episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that it was only at age 40 that she realized that the sun and the moon were, in fact, not the same thing.

Handler claimed that she thought that when the sun went down in the evening, it "popped back up as the moon."

While humans have known for millennia that the sun and the moon are different celestial objects, they are currently, by sheer coincidence, the same size in the sky, thus making it possible that some could mistake one for the other.

"This is true, she told Fallon. "I didn't know until I was 40 years old that the sun and the moon were not the same thing."

"What are you talking about?" the host replied.

Handler explained that she was riding an elephant while on a safari in Africa when her older sister said, "Chelsea, look up, it's not often you get to see the sun and the moon at the same time."

"I was like Scooby Doo," Handler said. "I'm like, 'Ruh, what? Wait, but they're always together'?"

She explained that as soon as she said that and saw her sister's reaction, she knew she was wrong.

"I just tried to gloss over it," Handler said, "but she said 'no, I need you to tell me what you think is happening between the sun and the moon."

Her admission that she believed the sun did a "costume change" and came back up as the moon even garnered a reaction from the man controlling the elephant, who despite speaking no English, went, "Pffft."

Days after appearing on The Tonight Show, Handler hosted the Critics Choice Awards. While on stage, she roasted fellow comedians James Corden and Ellen DeGeneres, as well as disgraced royal Prince Harry.
