Actress and comedian Chelsea Handler complained in a video over the weekend about vice presidential candidate JD Vance’s comment that the country is being run by "childless cat ladies," claiming that the country is "still controlled by men" and has systems that will "continue to benefit men." Vance was referencing women likely much like Handler, who has praised the single life.

"As you might have heard, Donald Trump’s running mate and future star of his own Dateline episode, JD Vance, is ruffling quite a few feathers this week," Handler said, before playing a clip of Vance’s appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show in 2021.

Vance’s appearance on Carlson’s show came after he said in a speech, "Why have we let the Democrat Party become controlled by people who don't have children?" Vance clarified to Carlson, "What I was basically saying is that we're effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and they want to make the rest of the country miserable too. It's just a basic fact," he said, "look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children."

Handler continued, "listen up you wingnut elegy, this country is still controlled by men and systems that were set up by men that are carefully crafted to continue to benefit men. So to put it in women-hating terms you’ll understand, you’re being hysterical."

Handler said that "there’s no correlation between childless people and the presidency," noting that George Washington had two stepchildren and drawing a parallel to Kamala Harris, who is the step mother to two children.

"And to your point about Kamala not being fit because she’s not a mother, I’d like to remind you that no president in the history of the United States has ever been a mother. But maybe if she had five kids with three different men and a scandalous affair with a porn star and was a convicted felon that would be more palatable to Republican men," she continued, taking a jab at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"I mean, my god are we tired. You sad, diet Mountain Dew-drinking, couch-humping, dolphin porn aficionado. All of us childless cat and dog ladies are going to go from childless and crushing it to childless and crushing you in November.

Handler concluded, "and before you tell me he didn’t really f*ck a couch, spare me. I grew up in New Jersey in the 80s where everyone had a couch in their basement and I know a couch f*cker when I see one."

Handler came under fire in 2023 for a video she was featured in for The Daily Show titled, "A Day In The Life Of a Childless Woman." The video made fun of common "day in the life" videos made by vloggers, and opens with "this is the day in the life of a childless woman. I wake up at 6 am, I remember that I have no kids to take to school, so I take an edible, masturbate, and go back to sleep."

The video continued, with Handler stating that she wakes back up at 12:30 and gets ready to do "whatever the f*ck I feel like." She later added that with her free time not "chasing a child around" she can travel to Paris, invent time travel, teleport, reach enlightenment, and hike Mount Everest. "It’s amazing what you can do with this much free time."
