This after Toronto's own hockey team, the Maple Leafs, lost a series to the Canadians. Toronto lost the series in seven games, despite having taken a 3-1 series lead.

The Canadiens would go on to face the Winnipeg Jets, who they took care of in a quick four games.
The decision to light the tower up, however, was not loved by all, including Toronto Mayor John Tory, who said: "Not sure what was up with the CN Tower last night. Just confirming the Toronto Sign will not be lit up in the Canadiens' colours. #LeafsForever."
