Recent findings from a CNN poll demonstrate the Supreme Court’s potential overturning of Roe v. Wade may galvanize Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections — a reaction Democrats hoped would occur among their voters.

According to the results, Republicans may be more willing to vote now than they were at the beginning of the year. In contrast, Democrats have displayed a decreased interest in voting since November.

The numbers are not encouraging for Democrats. With an increased number of Democratic incumbents announcing retirement, Republicans seem poised to usher in a red wave that could break Biden's current hold on the US Congress.

This isn't the first survey to suggest Republicans are increasingly eager to vote new representatives into office.

Another poll, released on May 6, featured online interviews submitted to 800 respondents between May 3-5 in partnership with SSRS Research Services.

When asked “how enthusiastic would you say you are about voting for Congress in this year’s election?” 56% of Republican voters said they were “extremely/very enthusiastic.” Similarly, a broader group of 58% of conservative voters answered in the same manner.

Democrats, by comparison, expressed lower levels of enthusiasm. Of registered Democrats, 43% said they were "very enthusiastic" about the congressional elections. That number dropped ever further, to 35%, among the broader category of liberals.

An increased number of liberals said they were “not at all enthusiastic” about the election when compared with conservatives. Only 4% of voters who identified as conservative said they were not interested in the elections, compared to 14% of  liberals.
