In response to comments made on The View about black republicans, Georgia Congressional candidate Jeremy Hunt told viewers on Fox News he believes the Democratic party has left black and Hispanic voters behind.
When asked if the vote of black and Latino communities could lean more conservative in the coming years, Hunt said it’s a change that’s already in motion — due in large part to misguided messaging from democrats.
“It’s the Democratic party that has left so many blacks and Latinos behind. We want to have our faith respected, our families respected. I have to ask for every vote from a place of respect and a willingness to listen.”
Hunt pointed to a deep-rooted desire among blacks and Latinos to uphold family and faith values as the driving force pushing those voters to conservative politicians.
His remarks follow comments from Sunny Hostin, a co-host for ABC’s The View. On Friday morning, Hostin found out a fellow panelist was republican — and black — and couldn’t understand it.
“I just feel like that’s an oxymoron; a black republican,” Hostin said. “I don’t understand black republicans and Latino republicans.”
Her comments sparked backlash in the conservative political world. Publications like the Daily Beast, The Hill, Fox News, and Newsweek covered the remarks. And on Saturday, Hunt, a black republican, told viewers on Fox that the comments are indicative of the problem within the Democratic party.
The party is fundamentally out of touch with reality, he said.
“When I look at this clip, the women of The View are so emblematic of where the progressive elites are. I mean they have no idea what life is like in Southwest and Middle Georgia where I’m running for Congress right now,” Hunt said.
“They think that blacks and Latinos somehow owe them our vote for nothing more than the color of our skin. It’s insulting. It’s disrespectful.”
