A Connecticut state Senate district has flipped from blue to red after Republican contender Ryan Fazio beat favored Democrat candidate Alexis Gevanter by a three-point margin.

Just as border regions of Texas are flipping at the start of President Joe Biden's presidency, a similar GOP victory happened in the nation's northeast. This same district voted heavily in favor Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

According to the Daily Wire, the seat came up for grabs when former state Sen. Alex Kasser (D) resigned due to "stress" from an ongoing divorce process.

Fazio released the following victory statement: "Today the voters of Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan sent a message loud and clear to the state Capitol in Connecticut that a change is going to come."

"Together we can reduce taxes and the cost of living and create economic opportunity for all. We can once again make our neighborhood safe and support local police. We can protect personal freedom and local control, and we can bring people together to create a brighter future for all," Fazio stated.

Rachel Lee, a spokesperson for the RNC, also commented:

"Republicans coalesced in support of State Senator-elect Ryan Fazio and brought a sweeping victory in Connecticut. Fazio’s monumental win crushed Connecticut Democrats’ hopes to tread water in the midst of a failing presidency and [Governor] Ned Lamont [D]’s far-left agenda."

The GOP win means that the Connecticut Democrats no longer have a supermajority in the state's legislative body. As such, the progressives will no longer to be able to push bills through completely unopposed.
